Collaborative Family Law
Collaborative family law is a method of handling family law cases that involves negotiation and settlement of a case prior to filing any documents in court.
Typically, in family law cases, one party files a petition in court and that petition initiates the court case. The other party responds formally by filing an answer. Family law cases are frequently contested and involve court hearings as well as formal discovery methods.
In collaborative family law, on the other hand, the parties are each represented by an attorney, and we negotiate a resolution to the matter in four way meetings. The goal of the meetings is a written settlement agreement resolving all issues. We also agree to use informal methods of obtaining financial information instead of using formal discovery methods.
I am a collaborative family law practitioner and a member of St. Johns County Collaborative Family Law Group. As a collaborative family law practitioner, I have received special training in collaborative law which is a requirement of the SJCCFLG.
If you are interested in collaborative law and would like to know if this method is appropriate for your particular family law matter, please call my office to schedule a consultation.
Welcome to the Law Office of Carol A. Caldwell
My name is Carol A. Caldwell. I am an attorney and registered nurse focusing on family law related matters in St. Johns County and other nearby counties. The goal of my practice is to provide quality, individualized legal service to clients. Communication is essential and the attorney-client relationship is entered as a partnership in which the client is an active participant.
With a background in mental health and substance abuse treatment for many years, I bring to my law practice a maturity in dealing with relationship and children's issues that are involved in family law matters. Also, as a former hospital administrator, I have a strong financial and business background which provides me with the analytical skills to address the financial aspects of your legal matter.
Divorce is one of the most stressful events that an individual may experience. At my law firm, competent legal representation is given in a supportive atmosphere.
In addition to divorce, I handle family law matters such as child custody, post divorce modifications, stepparent and relative adoptions and paternity cases. In the area of elder law, I focus on guardianships, basic estate planning, and health care related matters. I am not a personal injury attorney nor do I specialize in medical malpractice claims but I will take on cases in which people need assistance navigating the complex health care delivery system either regarding insurance issues or finding the appropriate placement for their loved one.
